OUR HISTORY
The Westlands was conceived in 1978, originally as a condominium property, but subsequent plans included the development of villa units. It is a private, gated community situated in a quiet, secluded section of the West Knoxville 37919 area that, at the same time, enjoys easy accessibility to every convenience. Construction on the condominiums began in 1981 and on the villas in 1984. There are 82 total units tucked away on the seventeen-acre property: 64 condos and 18 villas.
The approach to The Westlands is an impressive, stately front lawn. Within the wrought iron gates, there is a Clubhouse and pool that are available to all residents and guests. The streets - with French names (Bordeaux, Burgundy, Calais, Touraine, and Orleans) - wind through the property and are lined by the brown-trimmed stucco residences and beautiful landscaping. The condos are built in small clusters, in harmony with each other and with the landscape. Owners’ individual plantings adorn patios and driveways that overlook green lawns.

A Board of Directors is responsible for governing and guiding the community in maintaining its unique culture that endows the residents with comfortable living. Annual homeowners’ meetings are held in April; more current news is conveyed through timely online memos/notices. A Homeowners Manual provides helpful information and reminders, along with an Orientation for new owners. Social events dot the calendar throughout the year: Cocktail hours, holiday celebrations, and UT and Triple Crown sporting events provide for frequent gatherings.
The residents, some who are original owners and others who are “newcomers,” bring a wide spectrum of professional knowledge and experience to the mix. Ranging from university professors to CEOs to artists, authors, and attorneys, residents can be found sharing “curb talk” visits as they go about their walks or gardening.
